Our Love Will Last

Our Love Will Last
Denise D’Angelo Jones
A love--- awakened from the past
Gently to say, “Open your heart,”
Whisper to me under the trees
Under the stars that our love will last!
A look of tenderness is cast
From every gesture that you make
Kisses of passion filled with beauty and romance
Say, “Our love will last!”
Lovers can open any doors to chase the loneliness away
Give me the freedom to love you
Heart to heart, I could be
All you’ve longed for. . . . . .
Two shadows silently embracing
Lying together two as one
Through all the madness and the mystery of chance Say, “Our love will last. “ Say, “Our love will last!”

Floating On Cloud Nine

Floating On Cloud Nine
Denise D’Angelo Jones
Look at the bright blue skies
As the rays of the sun reflect a new horizon in time
I picture us walking through the sand
Hand and hand by the ocean you and I
The waves upon the shore
Drift to the island a home away from home
I recognize contentment in your eyes
My holiday surprise, Oh. . . . .
How I love to look into your eyes
It’s you I’ve been waiting for all of my life
The wind in your hair
That smooth seductive stare
Swept me off my feet
Speechless and serene
I’m drifting on waves once again
Reality is not my friend
I don’t want this feeling to end
I’m floating on cloud nine
Floating, floating on cloud nine
Glow in the moonlight
Listen while the palm trees sway
To a symphony of sounds
Feel the tropical breeze
Caressing the trees
While we dance and hold each other close
Whisper in my ear, sweet little nothings
Then take me to another place and time
By your touch
Or could it be the wine?
I don’t know, I’ll fall for every line (Chorus)

My Friend Peg

My Friend Peg
Denise D’Angelo Jones
Look over there, sitting at the table
Holding her husband’s hand
She’s in the know, of everybody’s secrets
That’s my friend Peg
And when I’m feeling kind of funky and low
She helps me, let go
Simply by letting me know, she’s there
She’s my friend Peg, My friend Peg
Back at the Web, a boarding house in Chelsea
That’s where we met
Single and broke, we took on Manhattan
Barely making the rent
Armored with headshots, and resumes
We were star-struck on Broadway
Standing room and center stage
Were such a high, way back then
With my friend Peg
Memories remain, of temp jobs and heart throbs
But those dues have been paid
Finishing school, and moving to Manhattan
A doctor, I became
The elevator bell loudly rang
It was there with a twist of fate
Standing in a trench coat,
And clutching a leather brief case, in her hand
Stood my friend Peg!
Look over there, sipping wine and waving
That’s my friend Peg
She’s in the know, of much investigation
We can’t comprehend
But when I’m feeling kind of funky and low
She helps me let go
Simply by letting me know, she cares
She’s my friend Peg
She’s my friend Peg She’s my friend Peg

Old Ira

Old Ira
Denise D’Angelo Jones
Old Ira, what are you gonna do now?
You don’t get around as good as you used to
All your friends have let you down.
No one’s there when you’re wearing a frown
Old Ira, where are you gonna go now?
Now that Sara’s gone, and the time has come
To face up and caring on
Yesterday can no longer be found
On your own wearing the world upon your shoulders
Sara’s calling you back to another day
Try to find your way—hey. . . . . . . .
Old Ira, you sit on your porch and wait
And watch the street so eagerly
For the visits that never take place
The sun goes down and the moon leaves no trace
Old Ira, I’d like to help you along,
But your grief is aimed at the window- pane
Where you--- sit and you stare for so long
No one said that you had to be strong.

I'd Rather Be

I’d Rather Be
Denise D’Angelo Jones
I’d rather be tossed by a tornado
Stranded out at sea
Hand-cuffed to an alligator, stung by a bee
Breaking a nail, losing a shoe
I’d rather be, I’d rather be anywhere
Than to be with you.. …
I’d rather be eaten by a lion, trampled by a horse
Living with an in-law, leveled by a force
Cleaning out the cat box, at the local zoo
I’d rather be, I’d rather be anywhere
Than to be with you!
To be with you, said you adored me
But you just ignored me
The truth is that you bored me
With all your women everywhere
I can smell their perfume in your hair
I’d rather be swimming in a snake pit
Falling from the sky
Having all my teeth pulled, losing my mind
Starting my taxes, after they are due
I’d rather be, I’d rather be anywhere Than to be with you!
I’d rather be, having a contraction
Changing a flat
Going to Alaska in the winter with no hat
Lost without directions, chased by Caribou
I’d rather be, I’d rather be anywhere
Than to be with you!!
I’d rather be spilling coffee on my chair,
Hacking from polluted air,
Stuck on stand-by at O’Hare
Than to be with you!!!!!!!
I’d rather be in a taxi with no fare,
Cornered by a hungry bear
Caught with curlers in my hair,
Than to be with you!!!!

Has Anybody Seen?
Denise D’Angelo Jones
Has anybody seen my favorite magazine?
Where I left it, I don’t know
Is it sitting by the phone? Or tucked behind the throne?
Or getting squished beneath the neighbor’s cat, Max?
Has anybody seen my polka-dotted green
Drugstore reading glasses?
I fell asleep in bed, with cat-eyes on my head
Tomorrow we may find them
Helping Charlotte, spin her web!
Has anybody seen, my cellphone and my keys?
Dangling from the hook--
I leave them there each day,
That’s where they need to stay
I wonder now if Aliens have carted them away?
Oh please, find my glasses!
Please find my keys!
Release my cellphone from Mars,
With articles and recipes, from my favorite magazine
Has anybody seen?
Has anybody seen, my nicely fitted jeans?
Where I left them, I don’t know
I used to be so thin, now wear a double chin
Everything that journey’s north
Must travel south again!
Has anybody seen, my boundless energy?
Where I left it, I don’t know
I’m eating steak and yams,
To balance out my glands
Rationing the coffee,
While I’m shaving like a man!!!
Oh please, find my glasses!
Please find my keys!
Release my cellphone from Mars,
With articles and recipes, from my favorite magazine
Has anybody seen?
